Go-Go Downtown Napa


This may look like just a big hole in the ground, but it's really a sign of the times and a sign of the future in downtown Napa. The old Wells Fargo location is becoming "Napa Square" - offices and retail space. They're digging out for the underground parking. That's City Hall in the background. Across the street from here the Inn at Town Center hotel will get underway in the spring. Half a block east the Zeller Building project is framing up. Over by the Wine Train depot they're going full tilt on the Westin hotel project, and the Oxbow Market is moving along. The big "Riverfront" project south of Third along the river will start this spring. After a prolonged adolescence, Napa is growing up.

huh? are you getting paid to write this blog? what happened to the insightful, thought provocative look at current events in the world? I hope you'll look into the crazy astronaut woman, because I can't get enough of that story...or about Barbaro's death and how that's affecting the nation. You know really important stuff.

No, my friend, no pay for this blog, this is all me. This post fits into the "life in Napa" category. And yes, US soccer defeats Mexico AGAIN! Final 2-0. Landon Donovan tells the Mexican press their team are a bunch of bad sports, they don't shake hands after the match...

It's always "Wells Fargo."
"Wells," in this instance, is neither singular or plural -- it's just Wells, which I am guessing was the surname of one of its founders.

A. Nonymous, you are correct and thanks for catching the typo. You made me curious about Wells. Wikipedia says "1852: Henry Wells and William G. Fargo, the two founders of American Express, form Wells, Fargo & Company to provide express and banking services to California."

The expression we've all heard is "you can't be too rich or too thin." I suppose that gets said a lot around the tennis court at the country club, the changing room at Sak's? I suppose it draws a wry smile every time. Or is it really said in the aisles at Target by people who are at no risk of being too much of either? Indians owned slaves? Did I sleep through that history lesson?

There's a story in the news about a vote in the Cherokee Nation to change their definition of citizenship, restricting it to descendants "by blood." The story goes on to say that this change will cut off the descendants of blacks whose ancestors were slaves to Cherokee owners. What? Wait a minute, what?? Indians owned slaves?
